Gold Bitcoin coin on red falling chart as BTC sinks below $83K

Bitcoin started the week the way Wall Street feared: lower. The largest crypto slid to about $83,100 on Monday, down 1.6 percent in 24 hours, as Donald Trump's refusal to rule out more strikes on Iran pushed risk assets down across the board.

The fall came with the Asian open after a directionless weekend near $84,400. BTC bottomed near $82,680 on Coinbase before steadying, leaving it 1.2 percent below Friday's level and a long way from last week's $87,315 peak, Rio Times reported.

Record week, fading days

The awkward part for bulls: flows were historic. US spot ETFs absorbed about $2.4 billion last week, the best week of 2026 and the biggest since October 2025, stretching the inflow streak to seven sessions. But the daily tape faded all week, from $999 million on Monday to just $134.5 million on Friday, Invezz reported.

Institutions bought the dip while sellers camped near $84,000 to $85,000 capped every bounce. Over $10 million in long positions were liquidated as price tagged $83,107, and futures positioning sits near yearly lows with bears paying up for downside.

Oil, yields and jobs

Monday's dip is a headlines trade, not a flows trade. Brent's 3 percent surge and US yields near their highest since 2007 form the macro pincer, and key US employment data later this week will decide whether risk appetite returns. If Iran and oil morph into a bond-market story, crypto feels it twice.

For now the $83,000 to $85,000 band that contained September's rebound has become the battlefield again. A hold above $82,700 keeps the consolidation story alive; a daily close below $82,900 opens $81,000 and then $80,000, Crypto Times reported.

What to watch

  • $82,700: Monday's low zone; must hold to avoid an $80K retest
  • ETF creations: Monday's flow print shows whether institutions bought this dip too
  • US jobs data: the week's macro pivot for yields, the dollar and risk
  • $84-85K: the seller wall that has capped three bounces now
