New York Stock Exchange facade at night as Robinhood announces 24-7 weekend stock trading

Wall Street is about to lose its weekends. Robinhood announced September 29 it will let users trade a curated list of US stocks and ETFs around the clock on weekends - its first move into weekend trading and the closest equities have come to crypto's never-close model, GuruFocus reported.

The feature runs on overnight infrastructure from Bruce ATS and is pending regulatory review. It extends Robinhood's 24-hour weekday market, live since 2023: about 10 months after that launch, up to 25% of daily volume on the busiest days was already printing outside traditional hours, TrustFinance reported.

Not just weekends

Robinhood bundled the move with a full active-trader arsenal: earnings-event contracts via Cboe (bet on beats and revenue targets), perpetual futures with no expiry for eligible US users, and in-app AI agents that execute trades on your behalf. "Our focus this year is making Robinhood the best place for active traders," VP Abhishek Fatehpuria told Reuters. HOOD rose 3.06% premarket on the news, GuruFocus reported.

The timing rides an industry wave: Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange are pushing to extend hours, and SEC Chair Paul Atkins argues waiting for Monday's open means missed opportunity or added risk, Rallies reported.

Stocks go crypto-hours - but at what price?

The catch is liquidity. Robinhood itself warns night trading can mean thinner books, higher volatility and wider spreads - and weekend sessions could be worse. Access isn't the same as a good market, Cryptopolitan reported.

For crypto, the irony cuts both ways: weekend stock trading dulls "never closes" as a selling point, but normalizes always-on finance - and strengthens the case for tokenized securities on infrastructure built to run continuously. Coinbase's 24/7 futures, live since May 2025, already print billion-dollar weekends on big news, Cryptopolitan reported.

The bell is becoming a formality

From record chip earnings moving futures overnight to weekend votes and wars repricing risk in real time, the market already trades the news 24/7 in spirit. Robinhood just made it official for retail: the opening bell is becoming a formality, and Monday morning gaps may soon be a relic.
