Malaysia gold prices on 16 October 2026 show a one-ounce Kijang Emas coin offered at RM17,991, up RM139 from Thursday's published quote. Maybank's buyback price rose RM146 to RM17,289, while its conventional Gold Investment Account increased to RM556.55 per gram.
The rebound arrived after another strong US inflation report. September producer prices rose 1.3% from August and 6.3% from a year earlier. Those figures can influence expectations for interest rates, but they do not by themselves explain every movement in a ringgit-denominated bank product.
Malaysia Gold Price on 16 October: Maybank Quotes
Maybank's gold and silver counter-rate page displayed the following indicative prices at 10:12 AM Malaysia time. Selling is the price paid by a customer buying from the bank; buying is the bank's repurchase price.
- Kijang Emas, one ounce: selling RM17,991; buying RM17,289.
- Kijang Emas, half ounce: selling RM9,165; buying RM8,644.
- Kijang Emas, quarter ounce: selling RM4,668; buying RM4,322.
- Gold Investment Account: selling RM556.55/g; buying RM535.29/g.
Maybank says the displayed rates are indicative and may change without notice. They are product-specific quotes, not a nationwide jewellery price.
Kijang Emas Rebounds RM139 From Thursday
The one-ounce selling quote is RM139 above Thursday's RM17,852 reading, a gain of about 0.78%. Its buyback quote rose RM146, or about 0.85%. BullBuzz's 15 October gold update recorded the previous prices after the sharp midweek decline.
The half-ounce selling quote increased RM70 and the quarter-ounce quote rose RM37. The conventional account's selling rate gained RM4.29/g, while its buyback rate increased RM4.56/g.
The direction was not identical across every Maybank product. At 9:48:26 AM, MIGA-i showed RM563.28/g selling and RM539.92/g buying for holdings of at least 100 grams. The below-100g tier was RM570.78/g selling and RM539.42/g buying. Products with different pricing terms and update times should be compared separately.
The One-Ounce Buyback Spread Narrowed to RM702
The difference between Maybank's one-ounce selling and buying quotes was RM702, compared with RM709 in Thursday's snapshot. The conventional account's displayed spread was RM21.26/g, down from RM21.53/g.
A narrower one-day spread does not remove the resale cost. Buyers should record the product, weight, price on both sides and timestamp before comparing offers. BullBuzz's 12 October product comparison explains why coins, account balances and physical bars cannot be treated as interchangeable.
A separate Malaysia spot reference from HargaEmas.my listed 999 gold at RM546.820/g at 8:53:20 AM. That reference is not a bank selling quote. BullBuzz does not blend it with Maybank's retail prices.
US Producer Inflation Rose 1.3% in September
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the Producer Price Index for final demand climbed 1.3% in September, the largest monthly increase since March 2022. The 12-month increase reached 6.3%, the highest since December 2022.
Final-demand energy prices jumped 10.8%, accounting for more than 80% of the increase in goods prices. The measure excluding food, energy and trade services rose 0.5% for the month and 5.0% from a year earlier.
The Associated Press reported that the headline result exceeded expectations and added to the Federal Reserve's inflation challenge. Higher expected interest rates can pressure non-yielding gold, while inflation and geopolitical risk may support demand for it. The effects can pull in opposite directions.
What Malaysian Gold Buyers Should Watch Next
The immediate local check is whether Maybank revises its indicative rates again during the day. Buyers should refresh the bank page before transacting rather than rely on this morning snapshot.
The international watchlist includes US interest-rate expectations, Treasury yields, the dollar and energy prices. BullBuzz's US consumer-inflation report provides the preceding data point, while the 14 October Malaysia update preserves the earlier local comparison.
