Malaysia's gold price opened Saturday slightly softer. The local 999 spot reference stood at RM548.40 per gram at 11:38 AM on 17 October 2026, down RM1.71, or 0.31%, from the previous reading.
The weekend move follows a mixed week for Malaysian gold buyers. Bank Negara Malaysia's one-ounce Kijang Emas selling price finished Friday at RM17,991. That was a RM139 rebound from Thursday, but still left the official bullion coin 1.0% below its Monday opening price.
Malaysia Gold Price on 17 October 2026
HargaEmas.my displayed the following spot references at 11:38 AM Malaysia time. These are market references, not quotations from a jewellery shop or bank.
- 999 gold: RM548.399/g, down 0.31%.
- 916 gold: RM502.333/g.
- MYR/USD reference: 4.0883.
The same source listed 999 gold at RM550.11/g for the previous reading and RM554.66/g one week earlier. Its 17 October figure therefore sits about 1.13% below the seven-day comparison.
Kijang Emas Ends the Week Down 1%
Saturday does not bring a new official Kijang Emas fixing. The latest quote remains Friday's one-ounce selling price of RM17,991 and buying price of RM17,289. The RM702 difference is the displayed buy-sell spread a customer would need to consider before trading.
SemakEmas's recap of Bank Negara Malaysia data shows the one-ounce selling price opening the week at RM18,170, reaching a low of RM17,852 and closing at RM17,991. That produced a weekly decline of RM179, or approximately 1.0%.
The final daily move was positive. BullBuzz's 16 October gold update recorded Friday's RM139 rebound after the coin had fallen RM167 on Thursday. The weekly comparison matters because one day's bounce did not recover the earlier losses.
Latest Maybank Gold Rates
Maybank's official counter-rate page listed these indicative prices for 16 October:
- Kijang Emas, one ounce: selling RM17,991; buying RM17,289.
- Kijang Emas, half ounce: selling RM9,165; buying RM8,644.
- Kijang Emas, quarter ounce: selling RM4,668; buying RM4,322.
- Gold Investment Account: selling RM559.66/g; buying RM538.21/g.
- MIGA-i below 100g: selling RM570.78/g; buying RM539.42/g.
Maybank describes the figures as indicative and subject to change without notice. The account rates, physical coin rates and spot reference should not be compared as if they were identical products: premiums, ownership terms and buyback spreads differ.
Why the Saturday Spot Reference Differs From Friday's Coin Price
The local spot reference tracks the international market and the ringgit conversion. A physical Kijang Emas quote also contains the distributor's product pricing and spread. Timing matters as well: Saturday's spot snapshot was taken after Maybank's final Friday counter-rate update.
GoldPrice.org recorded international gold at $4,156.46 an ounce on Friday, up 1.07% for that session. A higher US-dollar close and a softer Saturday ringgit-per-gram reference are not contradictory because the two snapshots use different cut-off times and currencies.
Bank Negara Malaysia's Kijang Emas guide says the coin's market value depends on its 999.9 gold content and the prevailing daily gold price. The one-ounce coin weighs 31.105 grams, while its RM200 face value is symbolic rather than its trading value.
What Malaysian Gold Buyers Should Watch Next
The next official Kijang Emas and Maybank account quotations are expected on the next business day. Buyers should check the bank's live page before placing an order because the Friday figures may change when markets reopen.
The first comparison should be like-for-like: selling price against buyback price for the same product and weight. BullBuzz's 15 October report preserves Thursday's drop, while the 14 October update shows the earlier midweek move. The 12 October product comparison explains why coin, account and spot prices carry different spreads.
