Maybank's official counter-rate page displayed the following indicative prices at 9:20 AM:

  • Kijang Emas, one ounce: selling RM18,111; buying RM17,400.
  • Kijang Emas, half ounce: selling RM9,227; buying RM8,700.
  • Kijang Emas, quarter ounce: selling RM4,699; buying RM4,350.
  • Gold Investment Account: selling RM560.27/g; buying RM538.72/g.

The local spot board separately listed 916 gold at RM504.038/g and a MYR/USD reference of 4.0881. Spot, bank-account and physical-coin prices are different products, so their quoted levels should not be treated as interchangeable.

Kijang Emas Rebounds RM120 After the Weekend

The latest one-ounce selling price is RM120 above Maybank's Friday quote of RM17,991. The buyback price rose from RM17,289 to RM17,400. BullBuzz's 17 October gold update recorded those closing levels before the weekend.

The smaller denominations also moved higher. The half-ounce selling quote increased RM62, while the quarter-ounce price rose RM31. Those moves broadly track the one-ounce adjustment after allowing for fractional-product pricing.

The one-ounce buy-sell spread widened slightly to RM711 from RM702 on Friday. A customer buying at the displayed selling price and immediately selling at the displayed buying price would face that gap before considering any other terms. The spread equals about 3.93% of Monday's selling quote, compared with roughly 3.90% on Friday.

Maybank Gold Accounts Show Different Prices

Maybank's conventional Gold Investment Account selling rate rose RM0.61 from Friday to RM560.27/g. Its buying rate gained RM0.51 to RM538.72/g, leaving a displayed spread of RM21.55 per gram.

The Islamic MIGA-i board updated earlier, at 9:02:21 AM. It quoted RM561.54/g selling and RM538.10/g buying for holdings of 100 grams and above. The below-100g tier stood at RM569.04/g selling and RM537.60/g buying.

Different update times, product rules and spreads can make account prices move differently on the same morning. Maybank labels its rates as indicative and subject to change without notice. Its product documentation also explains that transactions use the bank's prevailing selling or buying price.

Spot Gold Holds Near US$4,180

Investing.com showed international spot gold near US$4,180 an ounce, with a 19 October range of US$4,156.95 to US$4,187.66. The international price was little changed on the day after gaining 0.47% on 18 October.

Malaysia's ringgit price reflects both the global bullion price and the exchange rate. Converting an ounce price into ringgit per gram requires multiplying by USD/MYR and dividing by 31.1035, the number of grams in a troy ounce. Dealer and bank margins then create the difference between a market reference and a tradable quote.

Bank Negara Malaysia describes Kijang Emas as a 999.9-fineness bullion coin distributed by Maybank. The one-ounce coin contains 31.105 grams of gold, and its market value follows prevailing gold prices rather than its RM200 face value.

What Malaysian Gold Buyers Should Watch Next

The first comparison is Monday's RM18,111 Kijang Emas selling quote against any later Maybank update. Buyers should also track whether the local 999 spot reference holds above RM550/g and whether USD/MYR moves away from 4.0881.

Recent daily changes have been sharp. BullBuzz's 16 October report tracked a RM139 rebound after the 15 October decline. The 12 October comparison explains how coin, account and spot quotes carry different premiums and resale spreads.
